Yosemite or El Capitan?

Apple’s excellent Operating System – OSX Yosemite!

El Capitan Logo Launch I posted not too long ago to hold off from Upgrading your Apple Computer from OS X Yosemite to El Capitan as I research it and go through it. There are several under the hood little issues that won’t affect most people, however a Big One that you might be experiencing now is once you do the upgrade from OS X Yosemite or earlier versions to OS X El Capitan, your POP EMAIL Accounts for most major carriers (such as GoDaddy specifically tested here at 4 Directions Computers, Mill Valley, CA), the APPLE MAIL Yosemite UPGRADE has broken portions of POP Email settings so you WILL MOST EASILY IF YOU WANT YOUR APPLE MAIL WORKING AGAIN) NEED TO SWITCH TO iMAP EMAIL SETTINGS with your Domain Company and your Apple Mail Account will need to be switched. It’s not very hard, nor takes very long, but you will need to do this change if you are experiencing this issue!

Yosemite or El Capitan?

Apple’s excellent Operating System – OSX Yosemite!

Apple has been very active lately. A few weeks ago we saw the release of iOS 9 (iOS are Operating Systems for all iPhones, iPads and really anything apple makes that has an “i” in front of it). 2 weeks later they released iOS 9.1. A company only releases a new Operating System release right after it has already done so if there are major glitches in the software. If there were only minor glitches they would just release Updates!
I bring this up because although not a perfect analogy, Apple release OSX Yosemite not too long ago and it has been an excellent operating System. I have tested El Capitan, and to be honest, as of this posting, I prefer Yosemite and frankly, don’t see the need for El Capitan. That being said and to be fair, it is still in the BETA testing. As of right now, I am recommending to all of my Computer Clients to stay with Yosemite and to call me if you have any specific questions or want more in depth IT Specs and reasons why I make this recommendation.
All the Best,

• So, now that Windows 10 has been out for a little more than a month, here’s my professional recommendation for all my Computer Clients: If you have Windows 7 (either the Home or Professional Version), absolutely stay with it – it is simply the best Operating System for Windows Computers right now. Just as the Yosemite Operating System is extremely solid for Apple Computer Systems.
• However, if you have a Windows 8 Computer, I would absolutely Upgrade to Windows 10. It is a far better Operating System and will save you money in the long run. It’s very good, very fast, and resembles Windows 7, with some Windows 8 features. It’s security and new Internet Browser (Edge) is excellent. AN IMPORTANT Heads Up: the Upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 10 (which is free from Microsoft) takes a VERY LONG time even on a very fast Internet connection! I wouldn’t even attempt it on an AT&T connection!

• AND NOW FOR YOU APPLE USERS! I have been spending a lot of time lately Removing Viruses and Hacks in both Apple & Windows – BUT MORE SO THAN EVER BEFORE IN SEVERAL APPLE COMPUTER SYSTEMS (BOTH BUSINESS & PERSONAL COMPUTERS). Apple users didn’t really worry about Viruses before, but now that APPLE has a significantly higher percentage of the market place in both Personal & Business Computers/Smart-Phones, Tablets, Routers and all their other I.T. Technology Gadgets – I am seeing A LOT of abnormal Viruses/Hacks/Malware Exploits. This is not to alarm you – just a friendly reminder to be careful when visiting Websites, Downloading Updates and when you get Pop-up Screens – give them a quick read before just clicking okay – always uncheck the so-called “Optional Offers.” * One last thing: “TOOLBARs” OF ANY KIND ARE ALWAYS BAD – in any within your Internet Browsers (this goes for Both Windows & Apple users), they are bad, bad, bad! Even if you use the product – say for example the Google Toolbar – DO NOT install it!. All they do is track your Online Activities on the Internet, Slow down your Internet Connection and are extremely easy avenues for Viruses/Hacks and Malware to come into your computer – all because you accidentally invited them in – bypassing your Firewall and Internet Security! So have a blast with your Computers and Gadgets, that’s what they are meant to be used for after all, but just be careful and if something feels fishy or just not “right” to you – remember it usually is fishy (or just call me for free advice if you’re not sure)!

As most of you know by now, I moved back to Marin County about this time Last Year after a bad accident and I needed major surgery that had to be done at UCSF, and now I am happy to report that I am finally healing up quite well (it’s been extremely difficult for me not to be able to Surf, Mt. Bike, Hike, Swim, go to the Gym, play Basketball or Coach Boys Basketball teams in Marin Schools & the Jr. NBA League at the YMCA for the past year)! But the wait has been worth it and now I’m getting excited to finally get out and enjoy one of our traditional Indian Summers!
And most of all, I really just want to Thank You all for your Support and Generosity as I recovered from a really bad accident! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I truly have the Best Clients!

As always, feel free to call me if you have any questions at all, or just need some free advice. As Always, Call me if you would like to Schedule a Computer Appointment. I miss you all and I look forward to seeing you in person soon!

Well, I was right about Windows 8.  8.1 made it better, but last week Microsoft finally decided to do away with it (Remember Windows ME anyone?), and have announced it will be replaced with Windows 9.  Now we are in a “WAIT AN SEE APPROACH” as they are thinking about giving it away for FREE!  WHY THEY DIDN’T STAY WITH A ALMOST PERFECT WINDOWS 7 IS BEYOND ME!  STAY TUNED, AS SOON AS WE HEAR FROM OUR MICROSOFT PARTNERS WE WILL LET YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO!

Apple, since Nov., 2013 has come out with Brilliant products and Mavericks has been GREAT (with a few iPhoto update issues that have been resolved).
